Modern medicine or Traditional Medicine? - To cut or not to cut?

By modern medicine, I am refering to the treatment of illness and disease with the help to modern durgs using more equipments uch as scope, CT, etc. For traditional medicine, I am refering to Traditional Chinese medicine as well as medicine use by various ethnic groups which was handed down through wordd of mouth of myths.

With the context set, and boundaries, let try to explore the question! First there is no correct answer, and the right question most of us should ask is not "OR" rather it should be and "AND".

As a learner of TCM, I sincerely feel that the two fields of thoughs will one day come together to serve the human race, the two school of though complement each other in many aspects and neither parties should ignore the curing effect of the approaches, although they are very different.

I am reading the book "名老中医之路", from points introduced by the 名老中医, they are looking forward to the eventual merger of the two systems and I sincerely wish for this to happen one day.

From the study of economics, we know that macro economics factors and micro economics factors are quite different but at the same time affect the state of health of a country, and the two school of thoughs complement each other when politician and governement introduce measure to restore the health of a country. Same for the medicial field, while modern medicine focusing or specialise on breaking the human body into parts of pieces (Micro), TCM look at human as a whole (macro). Both approach a illness with the objective to solve a problems, to cure a illness.

Thus we should try to seek both treatments, if possible, before a drastic or importance decision need to be made. Many articles and media will tell you that there are some organs and parts in our body which are redundance, but I beg to differ. All parts in our body is there for a reason, be it directly functional and indirectly producing supporting element for the support organs, care should be taken or alternative view should be consulted before a decision is made to remove it.

My thought is still very disorganised, will try to improve it further.

My thought on TCM - You can't use a primary school test systems to verify a PHD subjects

As a chinese, I was exposed to the treatment of chinese medicine since young, my mom will always prepare cooling drinks to serve the family when the weather changes.
I like listen to my mom telling me those special medicial formula which my grand ma taught her when she was young, such as the use of young bamboon to cure some heaty illness. According to her you need picking young bamboo early in the morning before sun rise, and before her neighbour caught her stealing their plant. Another interesting formula is a eat new born rat, which suppose to cure prolong cough.

Whenever we have fever, a special concotion will be prepared for you and somehow you will be cure by it, not knowing actully why.

My interest in TCM actually started way back when I was in Primary 3, in a chinese school, when my mom force me to borrow book from school library to read. The 1st book I borrow happened to be a book on Li Shi Zhen 李时珍, he was a famous physician cum natural scienctist who compile a book on all the known chinese medicine during and before his time more than few thousands. His learning journey in TCM plant a seed in me through out my childhood life.

As the years go along, some how, the urge to explore further was KIV, as I focus my life on study, courtship, working, and working and working. All this year, I am still very much interested in all thing chinese, and I some how believe that most of the theories we learnt today was originated from a same source of the universe.

Many years back, I started to explore yi-jing 易经, the great book of wisdom of the Chinese culture, all theory and wisdom of chinese we know today are originate from this book and all great thing we find today and part of it as well.

Example - Internet come about because of computer, computer era come about because of Binary, and binary come about because of the application of the use of 2 symbols in Yi-jin,

Example - Modern management strategies come from adoption of Sun Zi 孙子兵法 or other great work of eastern warring heroes/strategies, the fundamental theory behind the art of war are reference extracted from yi-jing

As the more I come in touch with the use of ancient chinese wisdom in solving the problems we face today, I somehow feel that the solution for the future lie in exploring the past. History repeat itself, and one of the thing human being learnt from history was that human being never leart from history.

While many claimed TCM has not being proven scientifically to be use widely, TCM has managed to cure people for thousands of years, my feel is that it was not the fault of TCM not being able to be proven scientifically, rather, the current western scientific research technique has not reach the stage of development to test its (TCM)viability. Afterall, you can't use a test for primary school kids testing systems to test a PHD materials. A primay school tester will never be able to understand the what steps a PHD subjects need to go through.

Any way, just my thought, spoken loudly! :-)
